About The Designer
Mawi Keivom is the London-based designer behind the popular accessory brand Mawi. Born in North East India and educated in fashion design in Auckland, New Zealand, Keivom moved to New York post-graduation and spent her formative design years there. Afterwards she settled in London where she met her future business partner Tim Awan. Together they launched Mawi accessories in 2002. In the years following her career soared; she won the New Generation Award from the British Fashion Council three years in a row, and made the Professional Hot Jeweller 100 List in 2012. Today Mawi Keivom continues to reside in London and design for her label.
The Rise of Mawi
Mawi jewellery first came into being in 2002, and the first line consisted of jewellery that Mawi had customised herself. These one-off pieces led to the brand being showcased during London Fashion Week, and within a decade Mawi rose through the ranks to become one of the most coveted brands in jewellery. Over the years Mawi has collaborated with high-profile brands and designers including Disney Couture, Atelier Swarovski, Hugo Boss and Selfridges. There is a solitary flagship Mawi store in Shoreditch, London however Mawi is carried by countless high-end retailers across the globe.
Eccentric Meets Chic
Mawi is known for its kitschy, eclectic style; chunky bracelets dripping in eccentricities and lockets adorned in charms and beads is the bread and butter of the brand. Mawi offers an utterly unique and countercultural perspective on accessories. While fashion and jewellery trends continue to return to more minimalist roots, Mawi remains true to itself and rightfully so. Each piece is hand-crafted and one-of-a-kind, offering a sense of exclusiveness that other brands will never be able to contend with. Celebrity wearers of the brand include Solange Knowles, Jessie J and Sophie Ellis Bextor - three women who certainly aren’t afraid to break away from the fashion pack. It’s no wonder they’ve all got a Mawi bracelet or two in their jewellery boxes.
Mawi is still dominating the accessories market today, as their neat blend of kitsch and glamour continue to win the hearts of fashionistas across the world.
