Marchesa

In 2004, the two friends Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig founded the label for glamourous evening wear. They met during their studies at the Chelsea College of Art and Design in London. Georgina Chapman continued to study fashion design at the Wimbledon School of Art, and started working as a costumier in 2001. She worked as a model and an actress on the side. Keren Craig studied at the Brighton Art College until 2000 - she specialised in textile printing and embroidery. Together, they formed the origins of Marchesa clothes company.

The Marchesa style

The controversial nineteenth-century aristocrat Marchesa Luisa Casati is the muse for the design duo’s creations. While she was alive, Casati’s vision was to be a glamourous work of art. This approach is reflected in Marchesa’s design language for its dresses and gowns. Velvet gowns with lace trim and tulle dresses with elaborate detailing are just a portion of the brands selections. Made from quality materials, the dresses are elegant with a good portion of extravagance. Numerous celebrities, like Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz and Emma Watson are regularly seen on the red carpet with Marchesa designs.
Apart from evening dresses, the label designs wedding dresses, launched the Marchesa bags line and has a more casual and less expensive line, Notte by Marchesa.
