Hermès Jewellery: Then And Now
Hermès is a French luxury brand of fashion founded in 1837 by Thierry Hermès. The brand specializes in leather accessories, jewellery and ready-to-wear clothing among other items. In the first half of the 20th century, Hermès made the move from leather riding goods into high-fashion. During the 1950s, Hermès jewellery gained attention due to the release of its first collection of bracelets and other trinkets. By the end of the century the brand had revolutionized itself as a provider of irreplaceable style. The brand has been partnered with the Tuareg tribe for years, collaborating on collections of silver jewellery. Today, Hermès rings, bracelets and necklaces are highly coveted - Hermès’ collection of jewellery is easily their hottest commodity, next to their famous handbags.
The Famed Hermès Family History
Beginning with Thierry Hermès in 1837, the Hermès aesthetic has never been outside the control of the Hermès family. Thierry Hermès’ parents came from Germany to France in 1828, with their young son. Thierry went on to found his brand on the basis of dedication to quality and impeccable style. When he left his post in 1880, his son and grandsons Charles-Émile and Adolphe and Émile-Maurice took control of the brand. The trio is widely known as responsible for Hermès' move into high fashion. Robert Dumas-Hermès took over in the 1950s, repeatedly revamping the brand throughout the decades that he was in charge. Robert's son Jean-Louis Dumas succeeded him. Today, Jean-Louis' son Pierre-Alexis Dumas is acting creative director for the brand.
