The Life of Guccio Gucci

Guccio Gucci was born in Florence in 1881. The son of an Italian merchant, Gucci was well-versed in all things business by the time he opened his own saddlery in 1920. He lived and worked in London during his adolescence, taking a job as a lift-worker in the prestigious Savoy Hotel. Impressed by the calibre of the guests’ travel trunks, he was inspired to return home and start his own business. He founded the house of Gucci in Florence in 1920, selling ornate travel cases, bags and leather accessories. His items were a hit amongst Italy’s aristocracy, leading them to be named “Official Supplier To The Italian Royal Household”. Guccio passed away in 1953, leaving his name to Italy’s most beloved fashion house.

Gucci’s Move To High-Fashion

After the death of Guccio Gucci in 1953, his sons took over the brand and began to transform it from family-run label to high-fashion giant. The brand branched into lines of ready-to-wear, comprised of Gucci trousers, tops, shoes, skirts, suits and other items. The world’s rich and famous took note, and began wearing the brand’s designs to public outings causing a surge in popularity for Gucci. Their opulent, rich, uncompromising style was the epitome of Hollywood, a style everyone wished to emulate. Starlets began sporting Gucci dresses to awards ceremonies and other high-profile events, giving them an untouchable status. Gucci’s name and insignia became a symbol of stature. Working with designers such as Tom Ford, Dawn Mello and most recently Alessandro Michele, Gucci continues to be the go-to for glamour and glitter.

Sumptuous, Show-Stopping Style

Gucci has never compromised on two things; style and standard. The brand are famous for their decadent, ostentatious take on fashion, making their items from the best materials in Italy. Gucci skirts, tops and other items all fall under this description. Tailored to perfection and embellished with refined, eye-catching details, a Gucci jacket is the must-have piece in every autumn/winter wardrobe. If you’re a lady with OTT taste, the chances are you’ve had your eye on a Gucci blazer or other piece for a while now. With their endless glamour and sleek, structured style, it’s hard not to want one!

Gucci Jackets and Coats Today

While Gucci’s name remains top of the totem pole of Italian fashion houses, it’s not a big surprise that everyone in show-business is wearing one of their jackets. Lady Gaga, Gwyneth Paltrow and Dakota Johnson are all fans of the house’s show-stopping, sumptuously tailored jackets.

“Fashion fades, only style remains.”
