In The Garden of EDUN
EDUN is a luxury Irish-American fashion label launched in 2005 by musician Bono and his wife Ali Hewson. Initially, EDUN clothes was founded as a way of promoting trade in Africa, sourcing production on the continent. Since its launch the brand has worked in various countries including Peru, Kenya and Uganda. In 2013, EDUN appointed Danielle Sherman as creative director and since then their designs have become both contemporary and coveted. Sherman’s first collection debuted at the Spring/Summer New York Fashion Week in 2013. Their collections consist of ready-to-wear, bags and accessories, mainly sourced from the African continent.
Philanthropy Through Fashion
When Bono, famed for his role as lead singer of U2, and his wife Ali Hewson founded EDUN their aim was to create a better world through clothing. They wanted to help create change on the continent of Africa by setting up a fair-trade company that would source its materials, factories and workers in struggling countries. The name EDUN comes from the word “nude” spelled backwards, and is also a reference to the biblical Garden of Eden. Since its inception in 2005, EDUN has made a significant impact in fair-trade fashion. Today, EDUN sources over 85% of its production in Africa, and continues to strive to make a difference in third-world countries through fair-trade and their patented grow-to-sew initiative.
The New Luxe
Edun clothing emulates a modern minimalist style. Creative director Danielle Sherman works hard to deliver a unique, modern spin on luxury through fine tailoring and elegant colour palettes. EDUN’s core aesthetic is based on nature and the world around us, as the etymology of the name suggests. This clean and classic take on style, with a pinch of originality, is what makes EDUN dresses, tops and other items so worth buying. The brand’s dedication to its philanthropic efforts is another major influence on EDUN’s style and worth, offering a feel-good dynamic that other brands can’t usually match. Selena Gomez, Ashley Tisdale and Rihanna have all been seen rocking an EDUN skirt, dress or pair of shoes.
With celebrities and people of note across the world coveting the brand, and 85% of their designs being manufactured in Africa, EDUN is still on-course with its original goal - to create fantastic fashion while giving back to the world. Purchasing a piece from this brand is not only great for your wardrobe, but it’s also a simple way to do some good in the world. Authentic EDUN knitwear, dresses and other items are available second-hand at REBELLE.com. All of our items are thoroughly checked for quality and authenticity.
