Dannijo jewellery was founded in 2008 in New York by two sisters, Danielle and Jodie Snyder. As teens, the pair had a knack for designing jewellery and opened a store named Dannijo Jewels while still in high school. When it was time to leave for college, the store shut its doors indefinitely. Some years later after designing a jewellery line for LWALA (a charity of which Danielle is a co-founder), the sisters decided to pursue jewellery design once again and founded Dannijo. It was during this time that stars like Natalie Portman began to take interest in their brand. They designed a line for Bergdorf Goodman, their first official line of jewellery, and thus began their ascent into the fashion stratosphere.
The DANNIJO Sisters
Danielle and Jodie Snyder were born in Jacksonville, Florida. As children, they used their father’s medical tools to create hand-made jewellery as a hobby. When they entered their teens, they decided to turn their hobby into a money-maker and opened up a small jewellery store named Dannijo Jewels. They took out a small loan to cover expenses and were moderately successful. When they left for separate colleges, their passion for jewellery fell by the wayside as they earned their degrees. Once college had finished however, they reunited and started pursued the idea again, launching the highly successful brand Dannijo in 2008. Jodie is responsible for the business side of the brand, and Danielle oversees marketing including running the company blog. They are both still the main designers for their brand.
Their style is an eclectic mix of trendy rock n roll and timeless, old-world aesthetic. This style is a unique blend that hasn’t been seen prior to Dannijo’s inception. Dannijo jewellery has been described as affordable, with most of their items priced at under 1000 US Dollars. The sisters have been named as one of America’s 30 Under 30 Coolest Entrepreneurs by Inc. Magazine due to their individuality and success. The brand was also among the first to launch fashionable cases and covers for Apple products such as iPhones, pioneering a trend that is now huge.
The brand today
Today, Dannijo is thriving; the brand is stocked in select, high-end stores such as Net-A-Porter, Shopbop and the store where it all began, Bergdorf Goodman. The brand has developed a strong following, receiving praise and support from celebrities including Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner and Beyoncé, further cementing Dannijo’s star-status.
