How the brand started

Richard and his wife Céline Vipiana founded the French fashion house in 1945. The range at the time focused on designing children wear. In 1960, the brand began to focus on high quality leather products such as belts, clothing and bags. It also later launched a ready-to-wear line with a sporty theme. The brand’s famous logo is a red elephant designed by Raymont Peynet. Soon, the brand opened new boutiques in major cities like Toronto, Hong Kong and Geneva. Today, the brand is distributed by the most luxurious department stores worldwide. Marco Gobbetti is the president of the brand and the creative director title has been retained by Phoebe Philo. Since the appointment of the creative director, the company has had a reputation for creating innovative and timeless collections. Phoebe’s fresh and precious style is immediately connected to Céline. A goal of the fashion house is to always look ahead and bring back the same trends into their collections with time. The women who wear the brand should look confident and should exude class.

The American fashion designer Michael Kors was named the first women's ready-to-wear designer and creative director of Céline in 1997. During his tenure at Céline, he combined modern femininity with a luxurious spirit. In 2004, he left the luxury fashion house to focus his career on his own brand. In 2005, Italian designer Roberto Menichetti was appointed as the next creative director. A year later, designer Ivana Omazic directed the brand. Omazic was a former consultant for the brand and had previously worked with Romeo Gigli, Prada, Jil Sander and Miu Miu.
